Working with John was a game changer for me. It feels like someone just came in to organize the garage or the basement with you the way you always dreamed of. I don’t think I could’ve finished both my PhD thesis and a major book without John’s touch. I told him that he awakened my writer’s soul. Now I’m onto my next writing project without fear, knowing he’s there.

[John has] the ideal mix of technical skill and masterful artistry when it comes to using [his] gift of helping others take a book from an idea to…well…a book.

John improved my writing considerably and I recommend him to anyone, especially ESL speakers. Although I have used English as my main medium of personal and professional communication for more than a decade, and have received excellent language exam scores, I am not a native speaker. Not only did John identify and correct several errors I made, he also made most every statement clear and more forceful.

During my PhD I developed complex frameworks and models that help to solve a real world problem. However, the process of writing down the problem, and explaining how it was solved was quite challenging. Given that English is not my first language I found myself writing in a way that confuses the reader. I did not realize what my writing issue was until John edited one of my papers. Once I read the edited paper I found that I was not properly organizing my ideas. Thus, John helps me not only to improve the grammar or the way that a sentence is written, he also helps to make my papers readable, to stress my contributions, and to flow almost like a symphony.

Writing a doctoral thesis is daunting, especially when English is not your first language. The PhD Doctor helped me overcome one of the major obstacles any graduate student encounters when writing his or her thesis—that one’s writing is not accurately reflecting one’s ideas. The PhD Doctor taught me strategies aimed at providing clarity and precision to my writing, facilitating the construction of my own narratives.
